FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Further Future 002 - A Journey Beyond the Horizon with Music, Wellness, Food and Tech
Majestic skies and expansive terrain served as the breathtaking backdrop for Further Future’s sophomore journey to the Moapa River Reservation, a mystical desert setting Beyond Vegas that played host to an otherworldly weekend of self-discovery and vivid inspiration. From April 29 to May 1, Further Future welcomed its community to a collective experience ripe with human connectivity and exploration where 4,500 Futurists chose their unique path through a curated program featuring legendary musicians, tech luminaries, innovative chefs, and an undeniable aspiration from attendees to unify and create a sense of community.
Days stretched into evenings as 24-hour programming offered around-the-clock mental and aural stimulation from Friday to Monday. Thought-provoking panels engaged listeners with discussions led by prominent speakers including Google/Alphabet Inc. Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, iHeartMedia CEO Bob Pittman, and cannabis entrepreneur Jane West, each touching on the future of innovation in their respective field. The Creators Lounge, a structure located at the center of the festival, gave attendees the opportunity to step into VR demos and converse with the world’s most realistic robotic human face, named Sophie by Hanson Robotics. Nearby, 3D sound space Envelop Satellite supplied an immersive arena for both musical guests and guided meditation.
Providing a stunning, open-air oasis replete with rejuvenating treatments, the Ablyss Spa’s masterful artists and stylists brought out the inner creativity of participants while nearby, a first-rate wellness program added sunset yoga, parkour lessons, and talks from mushroom forager Tero Isokauppila. Epicureans delighted in the Vendor Village, where purveyors like Justin Kingsley Hall’s SLO-Boy served gyros comprised of various shaved meats, along with lobster pho from District One and festival favorite Poutine Your Mouth. For the gastronomically adventurous, guests dined on intimate dinners with world-renowned chefs including Frank Gorriceta (Nobu), Jason Neroni (The Rose), and Michael Bryant (The Larchmont).
Five stages, distinctively dubbed Mothership, Void Village, Robot Heart, Booba Cosmica and Envelop Satellite sprang to life across the grounds, each delivering a soundscape as unique as their namesake. Sultry, elegantly arranged synths collated with dark, pulsating beats as internationally-acclaimed artists led revelers on an auditory adventure through both DJ and instrument-driven live performances. Emotive sunrise sets from Dixon and Lee Burridge drew house and techno lovers to the timeless landscape surrounding Further Future’s epicenter, the Robot Heart bus, which also played host to a DJ Tennis surprise sunrise set during the Monday morning after party that ultimately concluded at 9:30 am.
Across the sprawling reservation, the Mothership stage stood as a beacon of diverse talent, treating fans to classic hip-hop from The Pharcyde, indie shoegaze courtesy of Still Corners, exhilarating live electronica from 2016 Grammy Award nominee Caribou, a haunting amalgam of Chilean and gospel soundscapes from the exceptional Nicolas Jaar, an impromptu conga line led by turntablist extraordinaire Kid Koala, the first stateside performance from pioneering UK act Leftfield since 2011, and a vocal-driven performance from HVOB to close out the stage on Sunday night.
Other immersive stages included Void Village, boasting both music and a wide selection of vendors, and Booba Cosmica, home to both intimate performances and speaker panels. Each environment was surrounded by ample seating built from colorful pillows, stacks of mattresses, and vibrant daybeds, all primed for optimal lounging and relaxation. Standout performances at Booba Cosmica included a mesmerizing, jazz-infused sunrise set from harp aficionado and multi-instrumentalist Low Leaf, along with blissful morning DJ sets from Pedro Aguiar and Stèv. At Void Village, Jane Fitz flawlessly executed an all-vinyl set while Joeski paid tribute to Prince with a rendition of “I Wanna Be Your Lover.”
Although Mother Nature unfurled a series of untimely storms over Further Future, which saw four times the average rainfall for the whole of April fall in a single day, the perseverance of Further Futurists proved to be unwavering as they surmounted the elements and united as a singular resilient community. As the skies cleared periodically, beautiful moments were born from less-than-favorable conditions; such as the early morning parade of celebratory fans led by Dixon himself mid-set, leading the crowd from Void Village to the original location of his set at Robot Heart for a legendary end to a masterly performance.
The Further Future team would like to thank everyone who journeyed to the future with an open mind and a desire to build a better tomorrow, and the crew seeks to continuously improve upon any shortcomings while harnessing its triumphs to make the Further Future brighter than ever. Please send any feedback on the event you might have to firstname.lastname@example.org. The team will monitor this email closely to help build and shape a more refined experience for future attendees.
The Further Future team would also like to thank their gracious hosts the Moapa Band of Paiutes for another incredible year. Tribal Chairman Robert Tom shared:
“The Moapa Band of Paiutes could not be happier to have once again welcomed the Further Future community to the Moapa River Indian Reservation and share in the experience of this annual event. In spite of it being hit with some unfortunate weather, I believe the event was still a success and we are looking forward to welcoming the Further Future community for many years to come.”
